Computing
Computing at Chapel End Infant School and Early Years Centre
At Chapel End Infant’s School, we use the EYFS framework and the National Curriculum to deliver exciting and creative Computing lessons to all our pupils. Online safety is crucial and is taught at every level. We ensure that the children gain knowledge and are confident using technology safely.
At Chapel End, we provide children with the tools to use technology safely and respectfully in a caring environment. We recognise that technology is everywhere and has many benefits, encouraging children to use technology in creative ways. We want technology to be accessible for our children, enabling them to be able to use the internet and other programmes for research.
Our Computing curriculum is embedded in learning creatively and begins in the Early Years, where children have access to computers and Interactive Whiteboards. Our children enjoy watching informative videos, play educational games and follow our online reading programme, Reading eggs. We love our pupils to share what they have learnt and celebrate all pupil’s achievements.
We hope that all our children will be Computer literate and pioneers of the future.
Intent
Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and successful in our ever-increasing technological world. It is our intention to enable pupils to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information in a variety of safe ways.
Implementation
Safety is our first priority and key rules are a fundamental part our children’s learning. In Key Stage 1, children are taught to use equipment and software confidently and purposefully, to communicate and handle information and to support their problem solving, recording and expressive skills. Pupils are taught to understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions. They are taught to create and debug simple programs and use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs.
