Art and Design
Art and Design at Chapel End Infant School and Early Years Centre
Art helps us to understand ourselves, others and the world around us and is an inspiration for our creativity. At the heart of the KS1 curriculum is expression. At Chapel End, the children are encouraged to use their knowledge and skills to produce work that is full of imagination. They will draw, paint, and produce print works and 3D models and sculpture to reflect their own ideas and feelings. We look at a range of famous artists to inspire our own creations. It is a source of joy and inspiration for all abilities of artist.
ArtsMark Silver Award
Since 2022, we have been working hard on our ArtsMark journey to increase our arts offer to all pupils. Our subject leaders have ensured that all children have access to high quality arts education and cultural provision. We are very proud to have achieved the Artsmark Silver Award in February 2024 and we are now beginning our journey to Gold.
Intent
We encourage children to use their knowledge, skills and resources creatively, to produce work that is full of imagination. It is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject that should bring joy and a sense of accomplishment for all abilities of artists.
Implementation
The work of famous local, national and international artists are explored to enhance the children's knowledge and experience. Opportunities for being creative are created through the use of a range of materials to design and produce work. Children learn drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. Pupils develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
