Admission Arrangements
Early Years Centre
The Centre offers 40 morning and 40 afternoon part-time places, 20 day care places for 3 – 4 year olds and 20 morning and 20 afternoon part-time funded places for 2 year olds. Part-time places for 3 year olds are determined by the Centre. The following criteria are used: medical/special needs, age, siblings and distance. Part-time funded 2
year old places are determined by the Centre and are dependent on families meeting criteria set by the government. Day care places are also determined by the Centre and are dependent on availability.

The Centre keeps waiting lists for both part-time nursery and day care places so please make contact by visiting or phoning.

Full-time School
Admissions to full-time school are made through the local authority. The Local Authority has a policy of open enrolment. Applications for places are made in the spring term prior to the academic year in which your child will be five and commence full-time education. Application forms and information regarding the admission criteria are available from the school or LA. The school welcomes visits from prospective parents by prior arrangement. Your child will have an opportunity to visit their new class and teacher in the term before they start school.

In accordance with local authority admission policy, all children will start school in September of the academic year in which they will be five.

Applications for Reception places in September 2017 must be submitted to the local authority by 15 January 2017!

If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 they are due to start in the Reception class at a primary school from September 2017.

You must apply for a Reception class for your child even if they attend a school nursery or have an older brother or sister at your preferred school. If your child currently attends a nursery attached to a school this does not give them any priority for a place in Reception at that school.

The eAdmissions website for online applications opens on 1 September 2016 and the closing date for applications is 15 January 2017.

Visits to the school are available on the following dates:

Tuesday 1 November 9:30am

Thursday 3 November 9.30am

Wednesday 9 November 2.00pm

The visits are led by the Headteacher and include a tour around the School and Centre and an opportunity for you to ask questions. We try to keep these meetings quite small so as not to overwhelm the children when visiting classrooms and to allow discussion to take place during the tour. It is therefore important that you do book if you want to attend.

Please contact the school on 020 8527 1388 if you would like to attend one of these visits.

If you are applying for a school place at any other time in the year you must apply through the local authority.

Please see the attached document from Waltham Forest regarding parental options for deferring your child starting school.

Update on transfer to Chapel End Junior Academy
Most of our children transfer to Chapel End Junior Academy and the two schools work together to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible. A transition programme involving visits to the Junior Academy takes place in the summer term. Discussions take place in order that staff fully understand the academic progress and individual needs of the children. Parents of year 2 children are also invited to visit the Academy during the summer term.

If your child is currently in Year 2 at Chapel End Infant School you will receive a letter in the next couple of weeks asking if you want your child to move on to Chapel End Junior Academy. The Infant School will collect all responses and send them to the Admissions Office. There is no need for you to complete a Common Application Form (CAF) this year.

Parents/carers wanting their child to attend a primary school in the authority at any other time in the year will need to complete an in-year application form. This is available on the Waltham Forest Council website on the ‘In-year admissions’ page.
